frequently asked questions

Have questions? We’ve got straightforward answers to help you feel at home here.

Do you have a recital?

We believe every class should focus on building real skills, technique, and artistry. Rather than spending months on a single recital routine that’s performed once for just a few minutes, we host two in-studio Showcase Weeks each year. Families are invited to observe a full class, seeing the bigger picture of their dancer’s growth, progress, and hard work. For those seeking stage opportunities, auditions are available for our competitive teams.

How do I know if my dancer is progressing?

You won’t have to guess; we’re always tracking each dancer’s progress. Our faculty evaluates every student weekly across technique, performance quality, and mindset (in addition to seasonal student evaluations). If a dancer is ready for a new challenge or needs a schedule adjustment to support their growth, we’ll reach out directly. This ensures every dancer is always in the right classes for their development; no guesswork, no plateaus.

What if my dancer wants to try a class before committing?

We offer a free week trial for all new students. It’s the best way to explore our program and find the right fit.

What should my dancer wear to class?

All dancers are required to wear professional, all-black dancewear. For full details, please see our Dress Code (page 12 of the Studio Handbook).

What if we miss a class? Can we make it up?

Yes! Make-up classes are available and must be scheduled in advance by email. Makeups must be used within 30 days and are based on availability.

When is tuition due, and how is it paid?

Tuition is auto-charged on the 1st of each month. A valid card must be saved to your Jackrabbit Parent Portal for billing.

What’s the difference between Sliding Scale and Unlimited?

Sliding Scale is a flexible pay-per-class option. Unlimited includes full access to all classes, evaluations, workshops, and monthly events. The full comparison is in the Tuition section of the handbook.

What happens if the studio closes due to weather or emergencies?

We follow the St. Johns County School District closures. If schools close, we do too. We’ll also notify you via email and BAND as soon as possible.

Who should I contact with questions, concerns, or feedback?

Email is always the best method. Please do not approach staff between classes; we’re happy to schedule a time to talk when we can give you our full attention.

How do I change my dancer’s schedule?

Sliding Scale members must email us to request a class change. Unlimited Members may drop into any class available for their level—no action required.

When is my dancer ready for competitive teams?

We’ll let you know if your dancer is ready for the next step. We also hold open auditions every spring, and any dancer, regardless of experience, is welcome to attend. Auditions are a great opportunity to explore the competitive path and receive feedback.

Can I stay and watch my child’s class?

To maintain focus and a distraction-free environment, our studio is drop-off only (except for Preschool classes). Families may watch classes through our secure livestream on SpotTV; just create an account in your Parent Portal after registration, and we’ll approve your access. In addition, we host two in-studio Showcase Weeks each season where families are invited to observe classes in person and celebrate progress.

Are there refunds or discounts for missed classes or holidays?

No refunds or credits are issued for missed classes. However, makeup classes are available and may be scheduled by email.

Do you offer sibling discounts?

Yes. Each additional sibling in the family receives 15% off tuition; this does not apply to cousins, friends, or other. This applies to both Sliding Scale and Unlimited Membership plans.

How do I upgrade to the Unlimited Membership?

Email us at info@thedancehouseco.com, and we’ll take care of the switch. You can upgrade at any time during the season.

How do I stay updated on studio events and announcements?

We share all updates, reminders, and event info via email and our private BAND app. Be sure to check both regularly.

How do I know which level or class is right for my dancer?

New students receive a customized recommendation after their free week trial or evaluation. Returning students are sent personalized class plans via email each season.

What if a class is full?

You can join the waitlist through Jackrabbit. We’ll notify you as soon as a space opens.

Can my dancer take private lessons?

Yes. Private lessons are available for all dancers and can be scheduled anytime. Most families reserve recurring weekly times.
